Bio
Muireann Ní Shé has been immersed in Irish language, music and song since childhood. She attributes her main musical influences to local musicians as well as the old recordings of legendary musicians and singers who have gone before.
Muireann’s debut album, Éistigh Liomsa Sealad (2023), is a unique sound-world, where contemporary and traditional influences combine with the dominating sounds of the pipes and ethereal arrangements of sean-nós song. The album features an array of soulful collaborations with artists such as Aoife Blake, Macdara Ó Faoláin, Johnny McCarthy and Jake Kalilec.
Muireann has toured parts of North America, Asia and Europe extensively with various groups and as a soloist, while also being in much demand in Ireland as a performer and tutor.
Muireann is a featured artist on Na Píobairí Uilleann’s 2023 CD release, Mná na bPíob Uilleann, Vol.1 – the first unique recording in a series that represents the many female uilleann pipers playing in the world today.
Most recently, Muireann recorded uilleann pipes for Dublin singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy’s latest single, Let Me In (March 2025) and upcoming album The Weight of the Woods (March 2026). Muireann also features on percussionist Caitríona Frost’s 2025 album Spreag, with a new collaboration piece, Síle na Gig.
Muireann continues to record and explore new sonic possibilites for the pipes, engaging in ongoing exciting collaborations with artists such as Peter Power, Róis, Caitríona Frost, Becky Ní Éallaithe, Aisling Lyons, Aoife Blake and Macdara Ó Faoláin.
